Facebook: Go or No Go

I have two Facebook accounts and I use them both.  I have to say I use the one for my site a lot less but I have it.  As for my personal page I use it all the time.  I am always logged into it.  I love the applications and play a ton of games.  I usually go strong on one game then change to a new one and go back and forth.  I also like everyone else post comments and keep in touch with family and friends.  It’s odd though I am not sure if I am changing or if my friends are changing.  So much in our lives has changed over the last year.  We have taken a different turn and I sometimes wonder if we will stay on this road or take another detour.  I miss the life we had before the Army moved us here and changed DP’s job.  He had the dream job he wanted, the job he joined the Army for.  But the Army had a new plan for us and we like always went with it.  We find a way to look at the positive in all our moves.  We really believe that you make each duty station good or bad.  There are some things that you can’t change that may be good or bad but if you make yourself happy in your family life it will make the time at the duty station better.  So, when we moved here we were totally excited.  We were finally closer to family and in Florida and a great location.  The job we knew for DP was going to be hard and it has.  It takes up so much of his time.  Then, comes all the new coworkers and their family members that we have here now with DP’s new job and it seems that some of them live in a different place then us.  There is the age gap, lifestyle gap, language issues, maturity level difference, and more.  There are wives that want the whole friendship and closeness but only Monday thru Thursday.  The weekends are the time when the hubby’s are home and they don’t want to be bothered with co-workers or some lame excuse of how they are worried about what their kids touching things.  It seems they all say they want an office with unity and yet they don’t want to work to make it happen.  Well, in the middle of this I have continued to use my Facebook account to help keep in touch with friends, family and the new people I have met here.  Somewhere over the last month my eyes have become open to civilian life and the stupidity of people.  I have noticed how easy and fast people on Facebook take things out of perspective and blow up.  It’s stupid little things and shows a real lack of maturity.  Why argue in comments back and forth?  Why not be the bigger person and just walk away knowing that it’s stupid?  I mean we are talking about grown people just calling others names and throwing dirt.  I was so pissed tonight that I just deactivated my personal account until I can decide what I want to do with it.  I know that I love the applications and yet I can play games online almost anywhere.  I know I have posted my opinions and they have pissed people off but then it makes me wonder?  Why do I care?  It’s my opinion and it can change or stay the same but it’s mine.  I have the right to say and feel what ever I want right?  So, tell me you don’t agree that’s fine but I am not going to change my mind because your feelings are hurt.  I am tired of listening to people bitch and complain because things didn’t work out the way they wanted.  Its life it sucks, get over it.  I complain from time to time but come on people can’t you just suck it up and move on?  Do you have to complain every comment you make?  What happened to just posting little happy things, or what’s new in life, and the occasional complaint?  I love using Facebook and it’s killing me not to be able to log in and play all my silly little applications that I really don’t have time for but I just don’t know if it’s worth the headache.  Who knows maybe in the morning I will have a change of heart and a plan to make it enjoyable again.

Who Cares

What I want to know right now is who really cares if some magazine put a picture of Obama in a bathing suit on the cover?  When Bush fell of his bike it was all over the place.  I think Clinton fell when jogging and it was blasted.  He is the President, the most powerful man in the country and he is going to blasted all over every TV, newspaper, magazine, and it is something that comes with the job.  We may not like what is said or the attention that comes with the job, but we have this desire to know it all.  We want to be accepted, acknowledged, and in control.  We want to know if the postman is married and what his wife looks like.  So, where would we think that Obama would be any different?  Is there something somewhere that says he’s off limits just because he is the President?  Doesn’t that make us want to know more about the man?  I think the only thing the most people would agree on is that children are off limits.  But even then I remember pictures of Palin’s kid being pregnant all over the news and when she split with her boyfriend it was plastered.  There was even an interview on at least one major news show.  So, once again we may not like what is reported but we listen and we voice our opinions.  If the news was bland and nothing to really discuss one way or another then it wouldn’t be interesting and we wouldn’t watch it.  If you stop and think about it, the leading stories are always some kind of catch phrase to get you in an uproar and freak out so you will watch.  This is just another one of those things and people really should try to remember he is going to be looked at with a fine tooth comb for at least the next four years.  I remember within a month of him taking office the news reported on all his gray hair.  They even compared a picture from when he started running for office to the present time and pointed it out.  So, there wasn’t some stink because he isn’t using Just for Men.  So why do we care if he goes on vacation with his family and they take a picture of him in his bathing suit?  We should be glad that he is a family man and instead be concerned with everything else that’s going wrong in this crazy world we live in.

Just a little pent up anger

I guess I just need to vent today.  I am sick of being pushed back and forth on the phone from one company to another.  There is the realtor, that can’t get an estimate for a fence that I need to replace.  I mean how hard is it really?  I can’t understand how some people can’t do something so simple.  I gave you the measurement, and told you everything I wanted.  I would think it would be easy to call a few companies and get a quote.  I guess not.  I have been asking for this information now for a month so I could get this done and make the tenants happy.  So, why is it that no one can follow a few simple instructions and get a straight answer?  I mean I shouldn’t be surprised.  I have been fighting with Tri Care and the doctor’s office for over a month now on Giggle’s appointment he had and why it’s not covered.  I understand why Tri Care isn’t covering it on their end but the doctor’s office is refusing to do their job and fix the claim so that it will be covered.  I guess I need to restate that, they are doing their job but they are taking their sweet time with it.  I called yet again today to get an answer and instead of them reprocessing it through the computer because it’s down they sent it snail mail.  Hello, can you explain why you couldn’t have sent it through a fax?  You did the paperwork if you mailed it and it would have only taken 5 days with a fax but now it’s in the snail mail as you put it.  He has a well baby appointment next week and Tri Care is saying they are not going to cover the appointment and the doctor’s office is saying it is.  So, tell me whom am I supposed to believe.  I mean I can’t say to Tri Care this time I didn’t know because they have been working with me to get it fixed.  I am at a loss of what to do.  I actually liked this doctor and don’t want to go through the paper work to get things changed and find a new one, but wow.  Where do I draw the line?  I feel bad because I am getting stressed out over things I can’t control and don’t want to lose it to the next person on the phone that says something stupid.  I have found that my patience on the phone now is a lot thinner than it used to be.  I am sure some of it is the fact that the kids are running around acting like fools trying to get attention even if they were perfectly fine right before I started talking.  Then there are the telemarketers that call and have accents that I can’t understand and they want to sell me something but have none of my information for a service they should.  Like for my warranties on my cars.  I started getting those calls about a month ago and I realized that my temper was so short with a guy because he had an accent that I couldn’t understand and then didn’t know which car he was talking about.  The poor guy switched me to someone else and I realized that I was more willing to talk and straighten things out because he spoke normal.  So, does that make me a phone racist?  Or was it because he wasn’t the little guy on the totem pole anymore?  I still wonder that.  I have to admit though I am sick of the phone ringing and I did put all our numbers on the do not call list.  I have even decided that the next time we move our number will be unlisted.  I am even considering having it removed now as we can pay a fee and the phone company will have it unpublished.  Who knows, but for now, my do not call list will be effective in a week and that should lower the amount of calls I get at home.  It won’t solve the other problems I am having with the doctors and the realtors but it’s a start.  I think my husband is about to take over with the doctor’s office which will be nice for me but crappy for them.  It usually takes a lot to get him irritated enough to get in and yell but I am getting nowhere with them so now they can have his wrath.  As for the realtor’s I am hoping that the tenants move out at the end of the year and I can list the damn house for sale and not have to do with the hassle anymore.  Then again maybe after the fence is fixed they will be happy and things will go smooth.  That is something I seriously doubt though since we seem to be stuck with Murphy’s Law where if it can go wrong it will.  This is where we have been at for the last few months if not longer and I am just waiting for that saying good things come to those who wait.  Well I am waiting, and praying that my time will come soon.

Phone Calls

It seems that every time I get Giggles to take a nap someone calls and wakes him up.  I want to turn the ringer off and start screening my calls.  I am getting fed up with people.  I have tried to put him down for a nap twice now.  As soon as he falls asleep the phone rings and then that’s it, he’s up.  I have also decided that from now on when we move our phone number will be unlisted.  I am sick of the telemarketers calling.  If they were friendly I would be a little less irritated by them all.  I think the first week we had nonstop phone calls from the neighborhood.  The minute I said we were renting they either hung up on me or just said ok and bye.  Now, I am getting calls for job interviews.  If they were jobs I was interested in then I wouldn’t mind that either.  Or if the people would be willing to answer a few questions first then I wouldn’t mind.  The lady that called today wanted to set up an interview for tomorrow morning and I said no, due to needing to work out a time with the husband to watch the kids.  I started to ask questions about the job and they didn’t want to answer them.  So, they hurried their little speech not letting me finish and said good bye.  I am finding more and more people are like that.  The minute you want to think about something or become more informed before making a decision then they either don’t want to talk to you or they want to push you into something.  They act as if it’s going to be the end of the world to not expect the offer right now.  If my cell phone worked out where we live I may just have the home phone shut off so that I wouldn’t have the problem.  Then again the last call came in on my cell phone.  I know they got my resume off line and that’s fine but if you aren’t willing to take the time to talk to me then why do I even want to come to an interview?  How would it be working for you?  I really don’t get people these days.  I almost want to just stay in my house and not deal with the world because it’s so full of stupid people.  That is unrealistic though.  They are everywhere and who knows some people may talk to me and think I am one of those stupid people.  I guess I will see what happens.  Giggles is up and playing nicely now and no nap is looking like a real possibility.  I guess I have to decide if I want my kid to nap or if I want the phone to ring for just another stupid person to call and piss me off all over again.  I think we are going to turn the ringers down first and see if that helps if not I will just have to turn them off.  Who knows I may get some peace then.

Mommy Play Groups

I am so baffled right now it’s not even funny.  I wanted to find a play group for W.C. and Giggles but mostly W.C.  I don’t understand what goes through some of these women’s heads.  I met some women from a play group back in Oklahoma and they were rude.  I know I am not always the nicest person to get along with and at times it’s hard for me to open up.  So, I thought maybe it was me.  Then I talked to another friend that was there and she got the same impression.  Well our other friends kept telling us to join, that they do things all the time and its different people at each event.  What the hell I could give it a try again right.  I went to their website and they wanted me to pay to join.  I mean “What the hell?”  Why am I paying to join a bunch of women go to the park or to some other place that requires me to pay again.  They said it goes to pay for the website.  Now, here’s my issue my website it’s that much and this group had over a hundred people in it and when I did the math it was a crap load of money.  Oh and then they had adds on the site, which we all know generates money.  So, my answer was not No, but Hell No.  These women were rude and it wasn’t just my imagination.  It was like being in High School where if you’re in, you’re in and you know the rest.  Anyway, we are finally starting to get settled in and comfortable with things and there are no kids in our area.  Then again there really isn’t much around us.  The whole no more building houses due to the marked.  So, today I started looking on the net for play groups.  I did find a few.  Once again they all want money to join.  There was one group that no joke said that the kids had to be a certain age to come.  They also only had slots for 20 members and if I wanted to join I had to send a request and be put on a waiting list.  What?  Are they kidding?  This is a playgroup people not a sorority.  Maybe my understanding of a play group is wrong.  I thought play groups were a place where it’s normally free to go and take the kids and let them play.  Talking to other mom’s is a bonus because it’s normally at a park and the kids still have to be watched.  I mean you find a group of women that have kids and need somewhere to go that’s not a lot of money (free is always better) and then the kids play.  I don’t get it.  The country is broke; people are broke and cutting back on all the extra’s so, I would think that a play group would be a great thing.  I guess not.  I looked at a few others and all wanted money.  Then they all had their own rules like you can join but you have to come to this and that and you have to pay by this day.  I wanted to send them all little comments back like “I wanted to join, but my kid isn’t old enough for your group.  God forbid my 11 month old play with your 2 year old.  There’s no telling what he might teach him.  You know he just talks all the time about sex and I know how much you wouldn’t like that.  I mean hell he might even build your son a vibrator with the Lego’s.”  Oh well, we got W.C. a pass to an indoor play place and he is just going to have to do it the old fashion way.  They even have a small area where Giggles can crawl around on the floor with the other 11 month olds and talk about whose mom’s boobs have the best milk.  Can you imagine the chaos?

Police are not the Enemy

The news reported tonight that a woman was arrested in Florida after translating for police officers.  The woman was in the country illegally and had a warrant for her arrest.  I think this is a good thing and I am glad the Officers did their job.  People need to shut up and stop acting like this woman’s story is so sad because she has children here.  I don’t really care that she has kids it’s a crime.  If the crime had been something else like murder then the news would have had a different kind of story.  A crime is a crime.  The Officers followed procedure and did what they are trained to do and to stay safe at work.  I am proud of them.  People seem to forget that when you start breaking small rules and laws that it can then lead to a different type of thinking and allow a person to go down a path that is not the straight and narrow.  Illegal is illegal and no matter how you twist it, it is what it is.  As for her having children here and being married well then she should of thought about all that before her encounter with a police office.  She has had the time to get married and have 3 children maybe she should of spent $5 on a box of condoms and saved money before having not one but three children in a country that considers her illegal.  She had to know that at some point in time that she would get caught.

Panties in a wad

I have this huge tree in my front yard and the leaves have been falling off it like crazy.  Today I decided to go out and rake them again, since you could barely see the grass.  So, with the house for sale all I could think is who wants to drive up to see a house and see a yard full of leaves knowing they would have to rake them.  I know this is something that most people with common sense would know.  I just don’t want it to be in your face oh my god look at the leaves we will have to rake kind of thing.  So, I got all ready to go out only to see it was raining.  I stood on my porch thinking I can do this it’s just a little rain and then decided to wait until it stopped.  When I came back in I turned on the T.V. to find out that we were in a tornado warning/watch.  I started laughing, because I mean come on now this town is so “Oh my god, it’s going to storm lets go find shelter in case a tornado comes.”  This town sets off the alarm at least once a month to check to see if the alarms work.  Then they set it off if the winds hit 60 miles an hour.   HELLO people its Oklahoma the winds are always bad here.  Do we really need to freak out so much at such an easy rate?  I have lived here for 2 years now and I think we have had two actual times tornados were sited.  The first year we had 2 or 3 small ones (from one storm) in the mountains and then this year we had one sited on the outskirts of town.  But for the actual warnings and watches that we have had or the times the alarms have gone off I couldn’t even begin to count.  So, could you please get your panties out of that tight wad up your butt that they are so we can all stop worrying so much about nothing?  I mean come on now I waited for the rain to stop, which was only sprinkles and then took the baby in his jumper and W.C. and raked the leaves all while there was a tornado watch going on.  I don’t think I am crazy or a dare devil but just realistic.  If we are going to get a tornado there is nothing I can do but take the kids to the shelter.  I am glad we have a shelter but in the year we have had it never used it and hope I never have too.  That’s just it though if it comes there is nothing I can do.  Praying isn’t going to fix it.  It’s like the old joke/saying where the flood came and the man was on his roof and people came by to help but he said no God would save him.  Then he died and got to heaven and asked God why he didn’t save him?  God told him I sent 3 people to help and you fool turned them away what else did you want me to do?  Who knows though, maybe the warnings/watches are the first sign.  The alarms the second and then seeing is the last sign.  I doubt it though since as I was sitting here writing this they the local weather put out another watch/warning.  So, I say pick it, reach around grab those panties that are shoved so far up your butts and shake that wad out, so you can see straight again.  Then set off the alarms when they truly need to be and maybe people will actually listen.  Because for now it’s just another city crying wolf and I will continue with whatever I am doing until I know there really is a tornado.

27th September 2008

This has me hot!!!

Taken from www.peta.org/mc/NewsItem.asp?id=11993

PETA’s letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield follows.

September 23, 2008

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, Cofounders
Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Inc.

Dear Mr. Cohen and Mr. Greenfield,

On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I’d like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea from Switzerland that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry’s. Storchen restaurant is set to unveil a menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent breast milk procured from human donors who are paid in exchange for their milk. If Ben and Jerry’s replaced the cow’s milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers–and cows–would reap the benefits.

Using cow’s milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer’s health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer. The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America’s leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow’s milk to children, saying it may play a role in anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease–America’s number one cause of death.

Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Like all mammals, cows only produce milk during and after pregnancy, so to be able to constantly milk them, cows are forcefully impregnated every nine months. After several years of living in filthy conditions and being forced to produce 10 times more milk than they would naturally, their exhausted bodies are turned into hamburgers or ground up for soup.

And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can’t produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can’t even turn around.

The breast is best! Won’t you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow’s milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry’s ice cream? Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Tracy Reiman
Executive Vice President

I found out about this from another mom blogger.  I think this is wrong on so many levels.  This is what I would picture.  A big room painted with pastel baby like colors.  Baby pictures all over the walls from precious moments to bloopers; rows of rockers with ottomans that have DVD players on the back, like on air planes playing slides of baby photos; surround sound speakers on the walls playing lullaby’s with the hidden subliminal babies crying; each chair with an attached hospital grade breast pump.  Wow, it’s a dairy farm for women!  Now, what happened to human rights?  Did we just become animals?

Let’s start with the beginning and work our way down this letter.

First, the claim cow’s milk is bad for us.  Well, maybe for my family who happens to be lactose intolerant or the other families that have allergies to it then, yes it is.  But for all the other families out there I think its fine.  I think the food pyramid does include milk and has for many years.  I mean have you ever known it not too?  If it’s so bad the program for Women Infants and Children (WIC) wouldn’t offer it, a program that’s all about nutrition and healthy eating.  I believe milk also holds a big amount of calcium which our bodies need to promote healthy bones.  PETA is being extreme in their facts that they are offering.  Anything that you put in your body has the risk to be an attributing factor to any health problems.  That’s where we go back to the food pyramid and remind people it’s all about taking things in moderation.  Maybe they should write letters asking all the fat people in the world to stop downing gallons of ice cream thus lowering the amount stores need to sell and reducing the amount produced.  I bet it could save a cow or two.

Second, they go on about how cows only produce milk when pregnant or nursing and are forced to be impregnated every nine months in filthy conditions.  HELLO!  I am pretty sure my breasts didn’t produce any milk the first 26 years of my life.  It wasn’t until after I had my son that I had breast milk.  Then, when I stopped nursing it went away and didn’t come back until I had my second son.  And yes, I was pregnant for 9 months too, both times.  Then, to make sure I have enough milk at times I even take the Fenugreek pills that help promote healthy lactation.  I also avoid certain spices (that I love to cook with) because they help lower you lactation.  So, what does that make me?  Then as far as the conditions of their living, did they forget that they were talking about cows.  I am sure there are places that could be cleaner.  But come on people, they live outside and spend their days shitting on themselves, walking in fields of cow patties.  Eating away at grass that some other cow peed on two hours ago.  The only cows that I have ever seen look pretty are show cows that are at a show.  I bet back on the farm they don’t look that clean.

Third, they talk about the veal industry.  How bad they are treated until they are turned into food.  Well, I am sorry but they are turned into food that yes, my family eats.  Get over it!  You should remember that we need to eat.  There isn’t enough food for farmers to grow to help make electricity or fuel out of.  So, if we stopped eating cows they would need more room to roam and grow and thus giving us less land to farm for food.  It may suck, but people need to eat to survive.  We can’t live off breast milk all our lives.

Fourth, they talk about how breast is best and that we need to give cows and their babies a break.  What?  I want to know if they were smoking pot when they came up with this idea.  Give cows utters and their babies a break?  Well, I have a 5 month old that only sleeps for 4 hours once a day and other than that he has a breast in his mouth every two hours.  When do I get my break?  I mean you want me to nurse him because after all breast is best.  Should I just start upping my herbal remedies to promote more healthy lactation so that on my short breaks of not nursing I can pump?  Is PETA going to buy me and other moms the new Medela Free Style (the only true hands free) breast pump?  I mean because you want me to produce more milk so all the ice cream eating people out there can give the cows a break.  I am not sitting down for 15-30 minutes during my 2 hour break to pump.  I have another child to take care of, a house to keep up with and all the other chores that come with being a responsible mother/adult.  If I had to do that then my family would have to live in unhealthy filthy conditions.

Last of all did they forget that it’s a bodily fluid?  That everything I eat, drink and put in my mouth comes out in my milk?  So, then you get a women who eats a ton of garlic and it’s now in the milk.  Am I going to buy some Chunky Monkey ice cream that has a hint of garlic to it?  Then you think about all the other things we put in our mouths.  What if some woman just gave her husband a blow job until he came and then pumped?  Do you really want to think that came out in the milk that they are using to make your Rocky Road?  What about the whole AIDS/HIV and other diseases thing?  Isn’t it possible to get that passed along?  Cats and dogs can pass worms in their milk.  What if the women had sore, cracked, and chapped nipples from all the pumping and then maybe some blood or infection oozed out in the milk?  Do you really want to take that chance?  Isn’t it possible to be exposed to HIV/AIDS and test negative for years before it shows up?  Are you going to lock women away like Nuns and control what they do for years to insure that they don’t have anything that could be passed on?  Then, pump them full of the herbal remedies and medications just to help them produce breast milk?  Can you tell me what the difference would be to the cows?  Who after all were put on this earth to help provide food for us?  We have just traded places with them.  I think PETA should give it up and put the energy and money that they are planning on for this into something they have a better chance with.  I can think of a ton of things.  Let’s see there is dog fighting, puppy mills, stray facility/animal shelters, the ASPCA, and so many other things they could do to be better the lives of animals in need, instead of making moms feel they need to be cows.
